The Comic Book Writer's Guide

It's back! After a long absence, I've got the site going again.

Me? I'm research girl. I've been helping to write and then, later, writing comics books for a long time. Now I'm mostly helping again. Writing comic books seems to call for some pretty unusual and specific types of information and the internet is just about the greatest aid to research ever invented. Here is some good information I've gathered up over the years and a few of the best and most helpful sites I've come across in my searches for info and ideas. Maybe they'll give you some ideas, too.

Keep checking this site. I'll add links as I discover them and I'll probably try to organize this list better. Suggestions and additions are always welcome!

First some information...

Information and Essays on the Craft of Writing

Here's some of the best information that I've gathered up over almost 30 years in comics. Some essays and information that apply to the writing of comic books. And some on writing in general. Including part of an essay by Mark Twain, a transcript of the writing section of Jim Shooter's "How to Create Comics" seminar, a Handy Guide to Terms used to describe panels in a comic script, and a humorous piece called "When I become the Evil Overlord."

This site is the work of JayJay Jackson. My company is Deaths Head Designs. If you want to get in touch, my e-mail is jayjay@jayjayjackson.com I am (sometimes) available for web site, illustration and general design work. Oh and an interesting side note... this is the first web site I ever designed, back in 1995, using a program called Hot Metal Pro. I haven't updated the design and I don't want to, I'm a bit sentimental about it.
